March 11,2010
Begins: 7:00 PM
Ends: 8:00 PM
The continuing lecture series, "An Evening at the Hook," continues the 2010 season with "Collision of Cultures: The Story of the Land in the Conflict between European and Native Cultures on the Nanticoke." Farm runoff, development, commercial fishing regulations, all of these controversial issues we read about so often in the newspaper stem from opposing viewpoints on how best to manage and use the land and waterways of the Delmarva Peninsula. But this is not a new topic for the area, in fact, it is part of a much larger story which stretches all the way back to the 1600's when Europeans first stepped foot on these shores. Come join Matthew Heim of the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance and researcher of local history, as he explores the culture and land use patters of Delmarva's aboriginal inhabitants and the Europeans who came to settle along the banks of the Nanticoke River and its tributaries, one of Delmarva's earliest land use disputes. Join us before the lecture at 6:30 for light refreshments.
Lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis.
