The cellist Clancy Newman is no stranger to Lewes. His previous Coastal Concerts’ recital showed him to be a young artist with ferocious technical ability, impeccable tonal mastery and passionate commitment. He became an immediate audience favorite. So Coastal Concerts is pleased to have him return for what is sure to be another electric performance.
First-prize winner in 2001 of the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg International Competition and a 2004 recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, Newman has toured extensively to great acclaim. The Philadelphia Inquirer puts him “in a class of his own.”
An upstate New York native, who has been playing the cello since the age of six, Newman has been a member of the Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center and the Musicians from Marlboro. He currently performs as part of the Chicago Chamber Musicians and the Weiss-Kaplan-Newman Trio.
