Stargazing at Delaware Seashore State Park

Location: Delaware Seashore State Park

April 16,2010

Begins: 8:00 PM

For thousands of years, people from all over the world have gazed up at the night sky in awe. Chances are, the last time you were outside on a quiet, clear night, you did just the same thing - gazed up at the twinking lights, wondered what they were, and imagined them to form various shapes and patterns.

The staff at the Delaware Seashore State Park will be holding a Stargazing program at the Indian River Life-Saving Station. Participants will learn how to navigate around the night sky, identify well-known constellations (and some not-so-well known ones), and learn about the ancient legends and stories behind them.

Binoculars and a telescope will be provided. Everyone will also leave with their very own star map! It will be important to leave your flashlight at home, as it takes our eyes up to 20 minutes to adjust to the dark. If you'd like to get the true stargazing experience, bring a blanket and a pillow because this is the only park program that you can enjoy lying down!

The cost of the program is $5 per participant, and space is limited, so please pre-register by calling the Indian River Life-Saving Station at 302-227-6991.
