Front Street Celebrates Delaware Day

Friday, 2012, December 7 - 4:00pm to 9:00pm

The merchants, museums and parks on Front Street overlooking the canal in historic Lewes invite you to "Delaware's Birthday Party, 'It's good to be first on Front'" on Delaware Day, Friday, December 7, from 11:00am-4:00pm.

Delaware Day celebrates Delaware’s status “The First State” when it was the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution on December 7, 1787. Delaware was a small state in 1787, and many were afraid that the much larger states surrounding Delaware would take advantage of it. Others believed that the only way to survive as a small state would be to join in a union with the larger states. Delaware Day was first celebrated in 1933.

To celebrate the 225th anniversary of Delaware’s ratification of the U.S. Constitution, Front Street shops and museums will have open houses, a scavenger hunt, light refreshments, special savings, and other special activities in each location! For more information, visit www.historiclewes.org
