Mysticism has intrigued humanity forever and has spawned thousands of books, films, poetry, dance and music. Inspirations and imaginations are filled with wonder, awe and possibilities. Artists love that. This month the artists from Gallery One delve into the sphere of the mystic.

The Delaware coastline and the changing weather is a continuing inspiration for artists.  A foggy day is both mysterious and eerie.  Joyce Condry’s acrylic “Fog” is full of unanswered questions. “What’s out there? Where does the water stop and the land begin?  Will the bird be able to find its nest?   Dale Sheldon’s acrylic “The Fog of Scattered Light” explores “early morning fog on a harbor, with barely visible boats in the background as the sun is breaking through.  The muted, monochromatic colors create an atmospheric painting with a misty and mysterious feel.” “Sunset”, watercolor by Sonia Hunt explores the misty evenings when everything is aglow with bouncing color and light,”

Artists are often inspired by other artists. Watercolor artist, Lesley McCaskill was touched by Van Morrison’s late 60”s song “Into the Mystic”. The song’s message is a review of his life and like Van Morrison; “Rhythm of the Sea” explores the continuous movement of the sea, soothing, nurturing and meditative.

Unusual moments and special places are often mystifying. On a recent visit to the  Sissinghurst, UK garden, Tara Funk Grim’s mixed media “Moonstruck”, imagines the white garden of Vita Sackville West where all the white flowers dance in the full moonlight.

Animals can evoke mystery. "Mystic Goat” pastel by Laura Hickman depicts “a lone, silent stance and perpetual smile. This goat seems to be the magical one of the herd. "
