Lewes is rich with historic happenings, legends, and tall-tales, many of them involving a touch of the paranormal. From the founding of Lewes in 1631 and the massacre of its settlement the following year, to the unknown sailors’ cemetery at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, some residents never seem to depart. This 90-minute walking tour will introduce you to stories of strange happenings in the town of Lewes and visit the Ryves Holt House, and enter one of the most haunted places in Delaware the Cannonball House. The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society Kicks off its Walking Tours on June 29 starting at 9 a.m. at the bandstand. Look for the pink umbrella held by tour guide Jean Brolund. The tour is a 50-minute gentle stroll around downtown. The cost of the tour is $10. Reservations are required and may be obtained by calling the Rehoboth Beach Museum at (302) 227-7310.

This 60-minute tour includes an introduction of the historic district and various stylistic elements, with an emphasis on the Victorian era and the homes of some of the important historic personalities and families of Lewes’s past.
