From the Judge with Elizabeth Deans

Hear directly from the judge of the 2017 Masters' Fine Craft Exhibition. Ms. Deans is the Assistant Director and Professor at the Smithsonian-George Mason University in Virginia. She currently oversees the academic program and curriculum as well as teaches graduate courses in decorative art, design, and architectural history at the Smithsonian-George Mason MA program in the History of Decorative Arts. Her seminars in the history of interiors, architecture, and ceramics, as well as survey courses in decorative art from Renaissance to modern, explore interdisciplinary relationships between design and material culture--investigating cultural exchange, materiality, mimesis, dissemination, diachronicness, and object theory.
