The Power of Black and White

Gallery 37 in downtown Milford is hosting an Art opening reception for an Invitational group exhibition of sixteen artists/artisans working only in Black and White.
  April 19th from 5:00-8:00pm.
This show will include local DE artists as well as artists from the states of MD, PA, NY, and MA.  Each individual artist will create one of a kind works in black and white in his or her area of expertise.  All ages (24-78), experiences, backgrounds and states will be represented in this show. A variety of work from photography, wood engravings, mono prints, encaustics, a handmade/welded lamp, pottery, collage, mixed media drawing, polymer clay, and sculpture. Each piece in this show was created specifically for this theme of the Power of Black and White.
One notable and emotionally packed piece in this show will be by Slaughter Beach, DE resident Doreen Bender.  A fiber quilt titled ‘Ashes/Timbers.’  There is a lot of significance in this work to the artist as she has been coping with the great loss of her personal home in a fire Christmas night.
In a world that flashes color at us daily with intense lights, bright colorful electronic billboards, bold color ads in magazines and on social media to grab our attention, we are seduced daily by color! Black and white makes us look at the form and structure and the purity of the object or image.
